Buildings, classrooms, laboratories, and equipment- education infrastructure – are crucial elements of learning environments in schools and universities. There is strong evidence that high-quality infrastructure facilitates better instruction, improves learner outcomes, and reduces dropout rates, among other benefits. At WIU, our commitment to providing Quality Education and Training means that we also emphasize the learning environment in which our learners are in. Over the years we have championed innovative and low cost school infrastructure to provide safe and enabling learning environments for the refugee and host communities we continue to serve.
With support from our partners UNHCR, UNICEF, Education Cannot Wait, Big Give, Barnabus Fund, Better World, Parishioners of St.Pauls Church Cheam,UK, BrightWell Supporting Refugees and Latterday Saints Charities, WIU has constructed over 1,500 classrooms, over 2,400 Latrine Stances and over 200 Units of Teachers’ Accommodation. These provide a safe learning environment for learners and for accommodation within the school vicinity saves them from travelling long distances of over 100 kms daily to and from the school giving them adequate time to attend to learners.
