Vocational Skills Training

At WIU we are very cognisant of the value of Vocational Skills training as an alternative pathway to not only employment but sustainable livelihoods and able populations. WIU currently manages  two Vocational training institutes in Kiryandongo and Nakivale Refugee Settlements, these serve both refugee and non-refugee populations. The centres also support the Vocationalisation of Secondary Education programmes. With a myriad of trades consisting of Brick laying, Agriculture, Tailoring, Motorcycle mechanics and Hairdressing amongst others, Vocational skills training is not permanent to the two centres. With support from partners such as European Union, Enabel and Skills Development Fund, WIU is able to implement and take technical trainings to remote areas by establishing temporary training grounds or partnering with existing training centres to reach more youth. These deliberate vocational skills training projects have enabled WIU to reach especially, out of school youth, young women and persons with disability who would otherwise have difficulty leaving their homes for a prolonged periods of time.
